I do.

I’ve been teaching for almost 2 months and still love it…..phew!  I was worried that the “honeymoon” feeling would have faded by now.  I love my job for many reasons…

  • Today, we went to the ZOO
  • The bus rides were my favorite part
  • No matter what, the sound of a group of kids singing will always make me smile
  • Teaching 27 sixth graders reading, writing, math, social studies and science is CHALLENGING for my mind and my spirit
  • Not only is the time-management a challenge, but trying to figure out creative, engaging, and clear ways to teach my students is always on my mind…
  • My students are gentle, generous, truthful (for the most part ;) ), kind and brave (Bo, that one is for you)
  • I get to laugh with 11 and 12 year olds all day
  • This afternoon, a group of boys were playing house in the “soft side” reading area…I’m not kidding.  It made me smile.

Those are just a few of the things on my mind right now.  I’m not saying that I never get stressed or annoyed, but I remember that being stressed and annoyed is part of any job.  It’s life.  I really and truly do love what I do every day.  I am making a huge effort to maintain balance and to remember that I can’t be perfect.  If I take care of myself, and do what I need to do – I will be a good teacher.

One more teeny tiny thing…the low-salary thing creeps up and freaks me out every now and then.  Since I know that it’s something I have to deal with, I need to reeeaaaalllly crack down on my spending and get into a good budget.  Any tips/advice will help!  I keep spreadsheets for bills and such, but just want something more specific to work with.  Especially with the holidays just around the corner, I don’t want money stress to put a damper on the season.  Help!

Loves! Kaneil
